Gushegu Chief, GES discuss teacher absenteeism, accommodation

The Gushegu Municpal Directorate of Education and the Chief of Gushegu have discussed issues militating against education delivery in the area to finding lasting solutions to them to improve on the sector.
Issues discussed included teacher absenteeism,
accommodation, transfers and encroachment on lands belonging to educational
institutions in the area.
Mr Bright Lawoe, Gushegu Municipal Director of Education, who
led some of his officers to pay a courtesy call on the chief at his palace at
Gushegu, called for effective collaboration between teachers and other
stakeholders in the area to improve on education delivery.
Mr Lawoe advised teachers to resort to their code of conduct
and laid down procedures to address their grievances to ensure effective
teaching and learning.
He entreated communities in the area to support
teachers posted to their communities with accommodation facilities and
commended the chiefs and people of Nabuli for providing accommodation to
teachers posted to the area.
He spoke about teacher transfer and said transfers were not
punishment but administrative measures to improve on performance, explaining
that the inability of a head teacher to control the unnecessary movement of
children during contact hours could lead to their transfer.
The Chief of Gushegu, Gushe-Naa Mahama Abdulai Shitobu, was
happy about efforts made to improve on education in the area, which he said had
led to the municipality moving from 213th position in the 2017/2018 Basic
Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) to 196th position in the 2018/2019
BECE.
Naa Abdulai Shitobu expressed joy at the cordial
relationship existing between the directorate and the community, and called on
the youth, and traditional authorities to rally behind the directorate to
enhance the quality of education.
He, however, condemned the lackadaisical attitude of some
teachers to work, and advised them to change their attitudes towards work to
improve on service delivery.
