African writers eulogise Allotey-Pappoe
President of the Ghana Association of Writers (GAW), Mr Francis Gbormittah, has eulogised the late advisor of the Pan African Writers Association’s (PAWA) steering committee, Joseph Emmanuel Allotey-Pappoe during an evening of remembrance held in Accra last Wednesday.
In his memorial message, the president applauded the tireless service and dedication of Mr Allotey-Pappoe towards the association and his extraordinary skills in organising events.
“He has been a point of guidance to the association whenever we called upon him about things mostly concerning public relations,” he said.
He said that the association was fortunate to have had a visionary leader like him and recollecting his participation in preparing the guidelines for PAWA’s 2019 budget.
Mr Francis Gbormittah addressed him as a “man of intellect who was quiet, peaceful and always immaculately dressed.”
The late Mr Joseph Emmanuel Allotey-Pappoe served as the advisor from July to October 2019, and was the former general manager of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The Chair of the PAWA steering committee, Nana Kwasi Gyan-Apenteng said Mr Allotey-Pappoe had lived a fulfilling life by paying his dues to the country.
Mr Gyan-Apenteng added that the PAWA steering committee had appointed Mr Allotey-Pappoe as an administrator, so that he could bring his knowledge of the history of the association on board in order not to fall apart.
He recommended that GAW had a lasting memory in a physical form created after him for posterity’s sake.
The family of the late SSNIT administrator recalled his love and patience towards the family and was a man of principle who always wanted things done right.
A long-time associate of Mr Allotey-Pappoe, Mr Fred Agbobli, remembered the working days they had with Professor Atukwei Okai in reviving the Ghana Association of Writers at Legon.
He shared fond memories of Mr Pappoe’s passionate love for literature and poems when he eventually wrote some poems.
There were also tributes from the PAWA National Associations.
The event held under the auspices of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) and GAW saw in attendance members from the various associations, families, friends and the Columbia Ambassador to Ghana, Claudia Turbay Quintero.
Mr Joseph Emmanuel Allotey-Pappoe died at the age of 72, and is survived by a wife and five children.
