14th Clerk of Presbyterian Church of Ghana inducted into office
A former chairperson for the Ga Presbytery, Rev Dr Godwin Nii Boi Odonkor, was on Sunday inducted into office as the 14th Clerk of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG).
As part of his role, he is expected to deepen the faith of members through prayer, worship and provide spiritual and pastoral care.
He is also enjoined to embrace the concerns of members and ensure that their spiritual needs are fashioned around Biblical and angelical teachings were appropriately met.
Rev Dr Odonkor was also the resident minister of the United Church Teshie- Nungua Estate and President of the Ga Presbytery Minister’s fellowship.
He replaced Rev Dr Samuel Ayete Nyampong, whose tenure of office ended on November 30, 2019.
The induction ceremony held at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church at Osu in Accra, was graced by past clerks, moderators, government official, family members, friends and loved ones.
Preaching the sermon on the theme “Lord, if it is you, bid me to come to you”, at the induction service, Rev Dr, Gyang- Duah, a former clerk, said the Presbyterian Church was established on the principles of discipline, and members were, therefore, expected to uphold the church’s tenets and doctrines.
Referring to Peter in the Bible, he said Peter hinged his fate on the reputation, power and authority of Jesus.
Rev Dr Gyang-Duah said Jesus is the surest anchor in the midst of a storm, and a shelter from the storm.
He said Jesus responded by commanding Peter to take the step of faith and walk on the sea towards him, however, seeing, the winds and the storm and out of fear, Peter began to sink, so he cried out loud Lord save me ” immediately, Jesus stretched out his hand and saved him.
He charged the newly inducted clerk and congregants to take lessons of faith and trust from Peter’s story, and solely depend on God for help.
He asked Rev Dr Odonkor to be committed to duty for the growth of the church.
Dr Godwin Nii Boi Odonkor on his part asked fellow labourers in the Lord to assist him to discharge his duty effectively and thanked the presbytery for the confidence reposed in him.
In a speech read on her behalf, the First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo, tasked men of God to use their platform to propagate the word of peace to its followers come December 17 and next year 2020.
