Africa Bitcoin Conference ends in Accra 

The second edition of Africa Bitcoin Conference (ABC), aimed to create awareness and help promote bitcoin adoption in Africa by instituting bitcoin-friendly legislation and regulatory frameworks, has ended in Accra.

The three-days conference brought together more than 200 paticipants including policymakers, entrepreneurs, industry players and businessmen from across the globe to explore the boundless potential of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology in shaping the future of finance on the African continent.

The Convener of ABC, Farida Nabourema, in an interview with the media said the main objective of the conference was to gain an understanding of how Bitcoin was impacting the continent and devise ways to increase its adoption.

She said Bitcoin was a form of technology that opened doors to an imaginable level of innovation in many sectors such as the healthcare, education, legislation, record keeping and the financial system. 

“So that technology at the core of it we have developers that are improving as they have increased security and privacy and this has seen the way transactions are performed across the world, the way information is thought and possible the way knowledge is shared across the world,” she added.

Ms Nabourema said Bitcoin as a crypto currency had become the fastest leading currency on the continent now due to its accessibility and convenience and had accumulated over 200,000 per cent growth rate in the past 10 years.

“Though, the growth rate will slow down at some point, due to the volume of people mining on it, it will increase tremendously in value, continue growing at a very steady rate and you’ll see less volatility,” she added.

Ms Nabourema underscored the need to adopt Bitcoin as a common currency on the Africa continent and the numerous opportunities it offers. 

Other keynote speakers advocated for more awareness creation about Bitcoin to enable people understood the technology.

Some topics discussed included career development in Bitcoin: prospects and challenges, basics of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency adoption to advanced seminars on DeFi, NFTs, and the role of cryptocurrencies in driving financial inclusion across the continent.

Panellists shared their journeys into the Bitcoin space and inspired the audience to remain consistent in their pursuits and continue learning while advocating for the adoption of the currency to impact lives of individuals on the continent.

The conference also feature a trade fair aimed at helping the public gain a better understanding of Bitcoin, encouraging adoption, and fostering lively discussions surrounding Bitcoin.
