AWLN Ghana congratulates Zanetor on Pan-African Parliament role

The Ghana Chapter of the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) has congratulated Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings on her election as Second Vice-President of the Pan-African Parliament.

Dr Agyeman-Rawlings, who is the Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle in the Greater Accra Region, also serves as Co-Chair of AWLN’s Governance and Political Participation pillar.

In a statement, the Chairperson of AWLN Ghana, Dr Charity Binka, described the elevation of Dr Agyeman-Rawlings as both a personal milestone and a moment of pride for Ghana and the African continent.

She said the achievement reflected her consistent demonstration of principled leadership, unwavering commitment to democratic governance, and dedication to advancing the interests of the people she serves.

“Over the years, she has exemplified integrity, competence and a forward-looking vision that resonates strongly within Ghana and across Africa,” the statement said.

Dr Binka noted that the election of Dr Agyeman-Rawlings came at a critical time when the continent required responsive, inclusive and visionary leadership within its institutions.

She highlighted the important role of the Pan-African Parliament as a key organ of the African Union, responsible for promoting democratic values, strengthening continental integration, and amplifying the voices of African citizens.

According to her, Dr Agyeman-Rawlings’ presence in the leadership of the Parliament was both timely and strategic, particularly as Africa continued to navigate complex socio-political and economic challenges.

Dr Binka said the achievement also held special significance for AWLN Ghana, as it underscored the growing influence of women in leadership across the continent.

“It represents yet another powerful affirmation of the growing impact of women in leadership across Africa. It also reinforces the core mission of the Network, which is to promote and support transformative leadership by African women at all levels of decision-making,” she said.

She added that the success of Dr Agyeman-Rawlings served as an inspiration to young women and girls, demonstrating that leadership at the highest levels was attainable and could be shaped effectively by women.

Dr Binka expressed confidence that Dr Agyeman-Rawlings would bring her experience, passion for service, and strong advocacy for equity and inclusion to bear in her new role.

She said AWLN Ghana believed her tenure would contribute significantly to strengthening the effectiveness of the Pan-African Parliament, enhancing collaboration among member states, and advancing policies that responded to the aspirations of African citizens, particularly women and young people.

“AWLN Ghana also reaffirms its commitment to supporting and celebrating women who continue to break barriers and redefine leadership across the continent. We remain steadfast in our efforts to create platforms that nurture, elevate and sustain women’s leadership in all spheres of society,” she stated.

“We extend our sincerest congratulations to Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings on this well-deserved achievement. We wish her success, wisdom and strength as she assumes this important responsibility in service to Africa,” Dr Binka added.
