British Council honours 41 outstanding Cambridge learners, 12 schools

The British Council has honoured 41 students and 12 schools for their outstanding performance in the Cambridge International Examinations at the 2026 British Council Partner Schools Awards held in Accra on Friday.

The annual event brought together students, parents, teachers, school leaders and other education stakeholders to celebrate academic excellence and recognise exceptional achievements within the British Council Partner Schools network.

The awards featured the Best in Subject Awards, Star Performer Awards and the Overall Best Student Award, while schools were recognised for outstanding performance in the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and A-Level examinations, including the Overall Best IGCSE School and Overall Best A-Level School awards.

Speaking at the ceremony in Accra yesterday, the Country Director of the British Council Ghana, Mr Nii Doodo Dodoo, congratulated the award recipients and commended students, teachers, parents and school leaders for their collective contribution to the achievements.

He said the awards celebrated not only examination success but also dedication, resilience, innovation and the transformative power of education.

“These awards demonstrate the outstanding potential of young people in Ghana and reinforce the importance of quality education in preparing learners for success in an increasingly interconnected world,” he said.

Mr Dodoo reiterated the British Council’s commitment to supporting schools and educators through professional development, assessment services, partnerships, capacity building and innovative educational programmes to promote excellence in teaching and learning.

He said the awards reflected the strong partnership between the British Council and schools, educators, parents and learners in advancing quality education and expanding access to internationally recognised qualifications.

Mr Dodoo announced that the British Council, in collaboration with Academic City University College, would offer a fully funded Presidential Scholarship Package to the Overall Best A-Level School.

He explained that since this year’s award-winning students had already progressed to various universities, the winning A-Level school would nominate its current best A-Level student to benefit from the scholarship.

The scholarship package covers tuition, accommodation, medical care, travel expenses and stipends throughout the student’s programme of study.

The ceremony also recognised Delhi Private School International Ghana as the National and Regional Winner of this year’s Your World Competition, organised under the theme: ‘Smarter Choices, Stronger Futures.’

Mr Dodoo said the recognition reflected the school’s excellence in critical thinking, creativity and engagement with global issues.

The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities, working with schools and institutions worldwide to promote quality education, cultural exchange and international collaboration.
