Concerned Market Members of Kantamanto Demand Immediate Resignation of Market Leaders

The Concerned Market Members of Kantamanto Secondhand Clothing Sellers have called for the immediate resignation of their market’s thirteen-member leadership, accusing them of actions that threaten the secondhand clothing trade.

In a press statement issued yesterday, the group alleged that the leadership had collaborated with the OR Foundation, an organization they claim seeks to disrupt the Kantamanto Market. According to them, this partnership has led to discussions about breaking away from the Ghana Used Clothing Dealers Association, a move they believe endangers the unity and stability of the market.

They also rejected the authority of Mr. Manu, whom they claim is acting as the market’s manager despite not being a secondhand clothing trader. “Mr. Manu does not sell secondhand clothing and has no expertise or experience in the trade. He does not represent the interests of our market in any capacity,” the statement said.

Additionally, the traders alleged that the OR Foundation had financially influenced the market leaders, offering them money to advance its agenda. They argued that if these claims were true, it would confirm that the leadership is serving personal interests rather than the welfare of the market members.

The group firmly stated that they do not want the OR Foundation involved in their business, warning that any external interference could undermine a trade that sustains countless families and contributes significantly to Ghana’s economy.

“The current leadership has lost our trust, and we firmly stand by our demand for their immediate resignation,” the statement read. The traders called on government authorities and relevant agencies to intervene to safeguard the future of the Kantamanto Market.
