Deputy Chief Imam Urges Obedience, Peace at Eid al Adha Celebration
The Deputy Chief Imam of the Fise Muslim Community in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, Yakubu Tamim Froko, has described Eid al Adha as a symbol of obedience, sacrifice and devotion to Allah.
He said the celebration remained one of the most important events on the Islamic calendar because it commemorated Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, in obedience to God’s command.
Mr Froko said this on Wednesday during the Eid al Adha celebration at Fise, where Muslims gathered to mark the occasion.
“Today is a very important day in the Islamic calendar. It is a day that shows obedience, sacrifice and brings us closer to our Lord,” he stated.
He urged parents to closely monitor the activities of their children, particularly their exposure to social media and internet content, to help instill discipline and moral values in them.
According to him, some online content and movies were negatively influencing children and contributing to moral decline in society.
“Our culture and religious background are very important and we must instill good beliefs in our children so they grow into responsible adults,” he added.
Mr Froko also called for continued peace and unity among people of different faiths, noting that religious tolerance remained one of the key pillars of Ghana’s peaceful coexistence.
As part of the celebration, the Emmanuel Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Fise visited the Muslim community to celebrate with them and donated 20 packs of bottled water.
The District Minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Fise District, Reverend Daniel Edmund Kofi Asanti, said the visit formed part of efforts to strengthen the cordial relationship between Christians and Muslims in the community.
“As Christians and Muslims, we are one people and we must continue to live in peace and unity for the development of the community,” he said.
The Chief of Fise, Alhaji Bukari Hamidu Kabore, also underscored the need for peaceful coexistence among people of different religious backgrounds.
“We are all worshipping one God and we can only enjoy the blessings of Allah when we live peacefully together. Religion should not divide us,” he said.
A youth representative and prince of the Fise community, Prince Jamal Kabore, advised the youth to stay away from drugs, fraud, betting and other illegal activities.
“This special day should remind us to promote peace, love and harmony among ourselves,” he stated.
