Educate youth to be peace ambassadors – Adenta Chief Imam

The Adenta Municipal Chief Imam, Sheikh Mohammed Muntawakil Abubakari, has called on Imams to educate the youth to be peace ambassadors during the general election.

This, he said would demystify the notion that Muslims were used as agents to foment trouble during elections.

He said this when he paid a courtesy call on the Editor of the Ghanaian Times newspaper, Mr David Agbenu, in Accra on Tuesday.

Sheikh Abubakari highlighted the challenges faced by Muslim youth, often drawn into social vices due to idleness, saying “We need to channel their energies positively such as vocational training and educational support.”

“I assume office with a mission to change the narrative, our impact must transcend mere rituals; it’s about instilling behavioural changes and integration,” he said.

He advocated seminars to equip Imams with skills to address current issues from an Islamic perspective.

Sheikh Abubakari called for collaboration to spread these values beyond Adenta adding “We can build a better society as Muslims and Christians if we come together, because leadership is a responsibility, not merely an honour.”

Mr Agbenu touted the significant contributions of Muslim communities, traditionally known for their silent but impactful deeds within their localities.

He said these communities, although not seeking publicity, found satisfaction in the awareness and appreciation of their members.

“In today’s technological era, however, there is a shift, we must utilise social media to share our activities with the world,” he said acknowledging the efforts of a new generation of leaders aiming to advance their communities.

Mr Agbenu stressed his outfit’s role in information dissemination, “Our duty is to inform the public and the government, our door is open, and do not hesitate to come to us.”
