‘Eschew inflammatory comments to ensure peaceful polls’
Ghanaians have been cautioned to eschew inflammatory and derogatory comments which have the tendency of fueling tensions in the country before, during and after the upcoming Election 2020.
Avoiding making such comments will help prevent mayhem, bloodshed and chaos to ensure peace, unity and stability in the country.
Martin Obeng, the Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive in the Bono Region, cautioned when he indicated that the nation was gradually entering the campaign season and called for cool heads to prevail when arguments get to boiling points.
He appealed to the leadership of political parties to engage in issue-based campaign to reduce tension, bickering, intimidation and acrimony to sustain the nation’s beacon of hope in democratic dispensation on the Africa continent.
“Our nation has advanced in access to electricity, potable water, quality healthcare delivery, education and many aspects of national growth and development and there was the need for preservation and enhancement so as to make progress in the nation’s forward to prosperity.
“I appeal to the leaders of our political parties to avoid making inflammatory statements which have the tendency of agitating our youth to foment trouble during the campaign season in the run-up to the general election to help prevent mayhem and bloodshed.
“The peaceful co-existence and national cohesion are the reason the nation received huge numbers of people from the diaspora during the 2019 year of return which brought a lot of economic gains,” Mr Obeng pointed out. -GNA
