Farmers’ Day gets support from Rainbow Agrosciences, IWMI

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has received donations from Rainbow Agrosciences Company Limited and the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) to support preparations for this year’s National Farmers Day celebration.

Rainbow Agrosciences, represented by its Technical Manager, Mr. George Selasie Ocloo, presented agrochemical products and a cash donation valued at GH¢300,000. The support included insecticides, fungicides and herbicides for distribution through MoFA’s extension services.

Mr. Ocloo said the gesture formed part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and complemented its partnership with MoFA under the “Crop Clinic” programme, which helps farmers access quality inputs and advisory services. He stressed the need to curb the influx of adulterated pesticides by ensuring farmers receive only high-quality products.

IWMI, in collaboration with Jekora Ventures, also donated 100 bags of organic compost fertiliser to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly agriculture. The Institute’s Country Representative, Professor Kehinde Ogunjobi, said the compost was developed through extensive research and is suitable for all crop types. He encouraged farmers to adopt composting as a safer and more sustainable alternative to inorganic fertilisers.

Receiving the items, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr. Eric Opoku, expressed appreciation to the two institutions for supporting the Farmers Day celebration scheduled for December 5. He said such contributions aligned with government’s efforts to strengthen food security, enhance productivity and reduce reliance on food imports.

The celebration, he added, remains an important platform to honour farmers for their dedication to national development.
