First Sky Group to construct 100 churches, mission houses in GAR
At least 100 churches and mission houses are to be constructed by the First Sky Group in the Greater Accra Region, as a donation to the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana.
Consequently, a sod was cut on Monday at Prampram to kick-start the construction works to be completed at the end of the year.
The projects which comprises 50 churches and 50 mission houses is being constructed under the church’s Legacy Temple Project.
The churches would have facilities such as auditoriums, washrooms and pastor’s office.
Similarly, the mission houses would also have facilities such as a sturdy, bedrooms, kitchen, and washrooms.
The project is being funded by the Chairman of the First Sky Group, Mr Eric Seddy Kutortse, and expected to address the infrastructural challenges facing the church.
Speaking at the ceremony at Prampram, the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Ghana, Reverend Stephen Wengam, called on Christians to build temples in the country for the service of God.
“If you build a temple, you would save a soul and the Lord would reward you,” he added.
Rev. Wengam commended Mr Kutortse and family for the gesture and his continuous dedication to the building of over 72 temples for the church in the country, and called on others to emulate him to ensure the progress of God’s work.
“A lot of our churches are in the rural areas and do not have the financial capacity to construct their own buildings, and we thank Mr Kutortse and his family who responded to the call for building of the temples to help those who could not raise resources to build churches,” he added.
He urged business entities to set aside part of their profit to help build the Kingdom of God.
The General Secretary said the Assemblies of God Church in Africa had about 20 million members with 98,000 local assemblies.
Rev. Wengam said the Assemblies of God was one of the first Pentecostal churches to be established in Ghana in 1931 in Yendi, in the Northern Region.
Mr Kutortse stated that he was “instructed” by God to construct the churches within Greater Accra to help promote the work of God.
He said the First Sky Group had decided to allocate 30 per cent of profit made from the subsidiaries of the Group to support humanitarian and charitable causes.
“For the past eight years, we have been doing this religiously that had seen us building 72 churches and completed several churches across the country and also assisting the renal unit with GH¢34 million and offering free dialysis for those who cannot afford,” he added.
The Group Chairman stated that the mission houses would help address the accommodation problems facing pastors and their families.
Mr Kutortse said the project would provide a decent place of worship for the members of the church, and also help to address the problem where some of the branches of the church worship under trees.
The Dzaasetse of Prampram Traditional Area, Asafoatse Odjadam IV, thanked the Group Chairman for the construction of the churches and assured them of their support to help them to achieve their mandate.
Present at the programme were the clergy, members of the church and traditional rulers.
