GIPC staff trained to attract quality foreign investment

Ghana has taken a further step to strengthen its drive to attract quality foreign direct investment (FDI) following the successful completion of a five-day capacity-building programme for investment promotion officers.
The initiative is expected to enhance the capacity of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) to identify, attract, facilitate and retain quality investments by equipping its officers with modern tools and international best practices to support sustainable economic transformation.
The officers, drawn from key operational and technical divisions of the Centre, participated in an Investment Promotion Workshop organised by the German Development Cooperation through GIZ Ghana, in partnership with the GIPC, in Accra. The programme ended last Friday.
At the closing ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the GIPC, Mr Simon Madjie, said the workshop had strengthened participants’ understanding of modern investment promotion and enhanced their ability to position Ghana competitively in an increasingly challenging global investment environment.
He explained that participants were trained in areas such as strategic investment promotion, investment intelligence, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, targeting, negotiations, investor aftercare, marketing and communication, which he described as critical to attracting quality investments.
Mr Madjie expressed confidence that the programme had improved participants’ professional judgement and deepened their appreciation of their role in promoting Ghana as an investment destination.
He observed that countries were no longer competing solely for capital, but also for technology, innovation, skills and sustainable partnerships, making it essential for GIPC officers to deliver world-class investor services.
He urged participants to see the end of the workshop as the beginning of renewed commitment to professional excellence by applying the knowledge gained, sharing insights with colleagues and working collaboratively to improve service delivery.
Mr Madjie also charged officers in the regional offices to act as ambassadors for investment by actively promoting opportunities within their respective regions, noting that investors’ experiences with the GIPC ultimately shaped Ghana’s reputation.
The Head of Component, Invest for Jobs at GIZ Ghana, Mr Simon Hochstein, said the workshop formed part of the German Development Cooperation’s broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s investment ecosystem through capable institutions and skilled professionals.
He noted that investment promotion agencies had evolved from simply attracting capital to institutions responsible for generating investment opportunities, providing market intelligence and supporting investors throughout the investment lifecycle.
