GNAFF marks 32 years
The Ghana National Association of Farmers and Fisherman (GNAFF) says it will take legal action against some members allegedly using the name and reputation of the association for personal gains.
According to Mr Bismark Doku Nettey, a founding member of the GNAFF, some former appointees and elected officers were illegally receiving official correspondences of the association and using the hard-earned reputation of the association for their personal gains.
Addressing a news conference in Accra to announce the 32nd anniversary of GNAFF on Tuesday, Mr Nettey said the association had chalked 32 years and the founding members were reflecting on their successes and challenges and the way forward for the association.
He announced that the association had recruited a consultant, Mr Francis Opai Tetteh, Country Director for the World Conference of Mayors, to reorganise, rebuild, reposition and enhance the image of the association.
That, Mr Nettey said, had become necessary to uplift the image and better serve the needs of farmers and fishers in the country.
Mr Nettey said GNAFF since its establishment had played a crucial role in the agricultural sector in the country and would continue to serve as a proud mother union.
The founding member said a planning committee had been set up to prepare for the election to elect district, regional and national officers for the association.
That, Mr Nettey said was as a result of the expiry of the tenure of the current executives.
Mr Nettey used the occasion to congratulate farmers, fishermen, extension officers, animal healthcare providers, research scientists, engineers, educators, policy makers, donors, agricultural commodity traders, and service providers as part of this year’s farmers’ day celebration.
