GNPC CEO acknowledges Springfield’s role in upstream sector

The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) yesterday acknowledged Springfield Exploration and Production Limited’s role as a pioneering indigenous operator and its contributions to Ghana’s upstream sector.

He said indigenous participation remains essential for value retention, investment attraction, and job creation in the industry.

He made these remarks when he welcomed Mr Kevin Okyere, CEO of Springfield Exploration and Production Limited, and his delegation to GNPC’s headquarters in Tema.

The discussion focused on Springfield’s ongoing operations, the broader landscape of Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector, and the importance of maximising our hydrocarbon resources, particularly in light of the country’s gas supply challenges.

On the critical issue of Ghana’s gas supply deficit, Mr Bawa reiterated the strategic role of natural gas in our energy transition and economic development.

“As Ghana seeks to optimise its petroleum resources, GNPC remains open to engagements that align with our mandate to enhance national energy security and economic growth,” he added.

The GNPC boss said he looks forward to continued dialogue on opportunities that advance Ghana’s energy sector and deliver long-term benefits to the nation.

Mr Bawa comes to the GNPC with institutional memory and a wealth of expertise in the energy, oil and gas sector.

He was the former Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency
