How Allah, the great and majestic, raised 4 dead birds to life through mesmerism
This short article provides another instance on the subject matter of mesmerism which we treated in some previous articles in The Ghanaian Times. It serves also as a commentary on Quran 2:261.
Mesmerism is the spiritual counter part of magnetism in physics, but unlike the latter, which is generated from a piece of magnet, mesmerism is generated from concentration of the mind and also from the recitation of verses from divinely revealed books like the Quran.
In effect, while a magnetic force can attract and repel materials (ferro magnetic), so can mesmeric force also cause materials to attract and repel.
Abraham in search of God, requested his Lord to show him how He gave life to the dead. The verse in the Quran is as follows: And remember when Abraham said, “My Lord show me how thou givest life to the dead”. God said, “Does thou not believe?” Abraham replied, “without doubt I do believe, but I ask this that my heart may be at ease”. God answered, “Take four birds and make them attached to them. Then put each on a hill, then call them, they will come in haste. And know that Allah is Mighty and Wise,’’ (Quran 2:261).
It is clear from Abraham’s answer to God that, even though he believed in God’s Omnipotency to give life to the dead, he wanted an increase in knowledge from mere belief, reasoning and arguments to the level of perfect knowledge where the heart , soul or essence of man attains spiritual tranquility (Tuma’niina) also called ‘’ Soul at ease’’ (NafsMutmaina) (Quran 89:29). Using Islamic terminologies the first stage of knowledge of certainty (reality) is called IlmAl-Yaqeen, where you use reasoning, arguments and inferences to arrive at conclusions in knowledge.
In the second stage, higher than the first, you see palpable manifestation of things divine with your naked eyes. Hence the name Ain Al-Yaqeen, meaning knowledge of certainty based on eye – witness. In the last stage, which is the highest, the spiritual pilgrim experiences in his person that which in the past laid in the realm of beliefs and reasons. Examples of these three stages of knowledge are as follows: You see from a distance the formation of dark clouds and hear thunders as well. From these you infer the possibility of rains. Next, as the clouds approach you, you begin to see tiny drops of rains falling – definite signs of rains. The last stage of certainty of knowledge that it is rainfall is when your body is drenched in the heavy down pour of water. In the case under consideration even though Abrahm, on whom be peace, asked Allah to raise his knowledge to the level of eye – witness, the magnanimous Allah raised it to the last stage of Haqq Al- Yaqeen by causing the miracle of reviving the dead to occur at his hands.
So Abraham, on whom be peace, took the four birds and first attached them to his body to enable them familiarise with it for the fact that birds and animals sense of hearing, sight and smell are much higher.
After that, he slaughtered them and put each of the four bodies on a separate hill. Even though the words “Attach them to yourself ’’, apparently, do not embrace the idea of slaughtering a literal interpretation of the text will mean that the birds were alive and not dead at the time when he deposited the bodies on the respective hills.
In that case, there was no miracle of reviving the dead, since they were alive and not dead. For this reason the words ‘’ Attach them to yourself ‘’ comprehend the idea of slaughtering, according to the following authorities of interpretation: Ibn Abass, Ikrimah, Sa’iid Bin Jubair, Abu Malik, Abu Aswad Al- Dawli, Wahab Bin Munabih, Al- Hassan and Al- Suddi.
According to them the full meaning is: ‘’Tie them to your body, then slaughter them, and then put each of the slaughtered bird on a hill’’. After carrying out that order he separated himself from them by some distance holding their heads in his hands. He then called each by name in a loud voice. Each bird then walked from the hill to where Abraham stood, joined its lifeless body to its head and flew away. The mesmerism in the whole miracle is explained as follows: First Abraham’s body served as a magnetic source to attract the dead bodies.
Second, each bird successfully joined its head to its respective body without failing by the force of mesmerism. Moreover, each bird flew away as a live bird to convince Abraham beyond all doubt’s that God, the Omnipotent , was capable of reviving the dead and that he shall definitely do so on the Judgement day.
Pertinent to draw attention of readers to the close resemblance between Gen. 15:9-10 and Quran 2:261 which is being discussed, except that the former is not very clear.
A similar incidence of mesmerism is in Quran 2: 73 where some Israelis, suspected in a murder case, were asked to strike the dead corpse of the murdered with a piece of cow’s meat. When the murderer struck the body, the latter was revived to life and said, “This is the man who killed me’’. After that he died once more. Commenting on the verse Imam of the Age Mirza Ghulum Ahmed has shed the following light on the incidence. He writes as follows: “This incidence Quran 2:73 – 74 was an instance of what has come to be known as mesmerism one of the peculiar qualities of which is that a kind of movement can be induced in inanimate objects with the help of which certain unknown or doubtful facts can be ascertained. Mesmerism is a great science which is the spiritual counter part of physics. As man is God’s Vicegerent on earth and everything has been subjected to him, he can by the proper use of his faculties under appropriate conditions influence everything else. Man has been equipped with active power and everything else is passive’’ (Ghulam Ahmad, Izalah-i- Auham, part ii ,pp745- 752).
A lot of the Biblical miracles worked by the Jewish Prophets were achieved through mesmerism. Examples include Elijah’s revival of a dead boy (I kings 17:22) and the curing of a lady of blood when she touched the edge of Christ’s garment (Luke 8:43-46).
