Ghanaians have been urged to know their blood pressure (BP) status just as they know their telephone numbers and take steps to keep it under control to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).
A Cardiologist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Medical School, Professor Albert Doku, who gave the advice, said uncontrolled hypertension was driving a growing burden of CVDs, particularly among adults below 50 years, and contributing significantly to deaths in the country.
“Do not wait for a medical or visa examination to find out your status. Know your BP, your blood sugar, cholesterol levels, weight and waist because often, the signs are with us but too few of us are listening,” he stated.
