Ibom Air increases competition on Ghana route …as it begins flight to Accra

Competition in the aviation industry in Ghana is set to be keener, as Ibom Air, the Nigerian Akwa Ibom State-owned airline, com­mences regional operations to Ghana.

The airline made its inaugural flight from Lagos to Accra on Tuesday.

The move, which marks a significant milestone in the operations of the company, offers travellers a new gateway to explore the vibrant West African region.

Speaking at a ceremony attended by the members of the diplomatic community, some travellers from Nigeria and some industry players, the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of Ibom Air, George Uriesi, said the company’s oper­ations in Ghana formed part of Ibom Air’s regional expansion.

“This strategic expansion aligns with Ibom Air’s vision to be a world-class African Regional Airline by offering passengers an industry-leading travel experience that encompasses schedule reli­ability, on-time departures, and excellent service,” he said.

He noted, “We are thrilled to commence our regional opera­tions today, with the inaugural flight between Lagos and Accra. This is a significant step for Ibom Air as we expand our network out of Nigeria and into the African continent. With this new route, we aim to enhance connectivity between Nigeria and Ghana, fostering tourism, trade, and tighter economic and cultural ties.”

The Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer revealed

 that Ibom Air was beginning with two weekly flights and later expand to five a week.

He said Ibom Air aimed to set the standard as an airline of choice for passengers by focusing on schedule reliability, on-time departures, and excellent service.

The Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limit­ed, Mrs Pamela Djamson-Tettey, in a speech read on her behalf, said, “We are indeed delighted to welcome Ibom Air to Kotoka International Airport, Accra, Ghana.”

She congratulated the founder of the company and its manage­ment for their decision to fly into Accra and are happy to have you on board.

The Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Charles Kraikue, said Ibom Air’s expansion to Ghana demonstrat­ed the attraction of Ghana as the preferred aviation hub in West Africa.

“The expansion of Ibom Air to Accra will add to the growth of Ghana’s aviation industry,” said Mr Kraikue.
