Interior Ministry reviews motorbike ban In Bawku, maintains curfew

The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has reviewed the restrictions on motorbike riding within the Bawku Municipality and its environs in the Upper East Region.

Effective Monday, August 25, 2026, men and women are now permitted to ride motorbikes between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.

The curfew hours, however, remain unchanged from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Government has also reiterated that there is a total ban on all persons in the Bawku Municipality and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons, and any persons found with arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.

The government has called on Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, Youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.
