Kokrobite residents commend ECG for resolving power fluctuations

Residents of Kokrobite, near Zanz Apartments in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, have commended the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for resolving a persistent electricity fluctuation problem that disrupted life and business activities in the community for several months.

The problem, which residents attributed to recurring faults on one of the transformers serving the area, reportedly worsened in April this year, leading to frequent episodes of unusually high and low voltage.

According to the residents, the situation damaged electrical appliances in some homes and created uncertainty for households and business operators who depended on a stable power supply.

They said several attempts were made to draw ECG’s attention to the issue through petitions submitted by the local Landlords Association, with support from the area’s Member of Parliament and Assembly Member.

Although fault repair teams were deployed on a number of occasions, the residents said the challenge persisted, raising concerns about the reliability of electricity supply in the fast-growing community.

However, after weeks of investigations and repair works, engineers of the ECG successfully rectified the fault, bringing an end to the fluctuations.

A resident, Mrs Margaret Opare-Addo, who was actively involved in following up on the matter with ECG officials, praised the company’s response, particularly the role played by Mr Rockson Offei, Head of the Fault Section at the ECG’s Bortianor District Office.

She said Mr Offei maintained regular communication with residents and closely monitored the efforts of technical teams to identify and resolve the source of the problem.

“He repeatedly assured residents that a permanent solution would be found and remained committed to the process despite the challenges encountered,” she said.

Mrs Opare-Addo disclosed that on the morning of June 16, Mr Offei informed residents that the fault had been successfully repaired.

She said subsequent checks within the community confirmed that the power fluctuations had ceased.

The development has been welcomed by residents, who said the restoration of stable electricity supply would improve living conditions and support economic activities in the area.

They also expressed appreciation to the ECG Bortianor District Office and the technical personnel involved in the repair works, and urged public institutions to continue demonstrating responsiveness to the concerns of citizens.
