Kotoko, Hearts poised for action …in top GPL Wk. 31 clash

Call it the ‘Super Clash’ when Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko clash in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and you will not be wrong.

On Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the two traditional giants would come face to face in a top match day 31 GPL clash.

Despite their current form and struggles, nothing can be taken away from this game as both would have issues of relegation and pride to safeguard, and therefore remains the biggest clash on the local football scene.

In fact, the hype for the highly anticipated game has already taken over local radio stations in Kumasi with fans of both clubs expressing

confidence and determination to undo the other.

Call-ins monitored on various sports shows on radio station in Kumasi suggests Kotoko fans remain optimistic of beating their arch rivals to boost relegation threats and perhaps, sink the Phobians.

That view was emboldened and has been given some credence by an assurance from Kotoko goalkeeper, Frederick Asare, in an interview.

“I can assure fans that it’s going to be a fantastic game; we will deliver a performance that will make our fans happy and ensure we correct some of the mistakes we have made in the past.We are committed to doing whatever it takes to secure victory”, he assured.

But a die-hard fan of Hearts of Oak, Murphy Jamal, has told the Ghanaian times to ignore what he felt were ‘ordinary rants’ from Kotoko, stating that “we understand the importance of the bragging rights, and we are prepared to win this game.”

The other weekend games include clashes between Accra Great Olympics versus Chelsea in Accra; Heart of Lions versus Samartex FC at Kpando; Aduana Stars versus Nations FC in Dormaa; Accra Lions versus Bechem United in Accra; Karela United versus Nsoatreman FC; Bofoakwa Tano versus Medeama; Bibiani Goldstars versus Dreams FC and Real Tamale United versus Legon Cities.
