Kwakukrom D/A KG cries for help to replace dilapidated school structure

The Management of Kwakukrukrom D/A KG and Primary School in the Tano South Municipality in the Ahafo Region has appealed to the government to construct a new school block to replace the weak and dilapidated wooden structure currently serving as classrooms.
The structure, according to the school management, had become a death trap, which often collapsed any time the rain sets in, disrupting academic work.
The situation of the Kwakukrukrom D/A KG and primary has been compounded following eviction notice serve them by the owner of the land the school is occupied.
Currently, the pavilion serving as classroom for the basic three pupils had collapsed, leaving teachers and pupils doing nothing at the moment.
The school currently lacks staff and office accommodation, and teachers are compelled to use or sit under a mango tree situated in front of the school as a makeshift staff common room.
The school’s P.T.A chairman, Michael Owusu, made the call here on Wednesday when the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive visited the area to assess the situation and possibly address the challenges facing the school.
According to Mr Owusu, the school was established by the community in September 2016 as an offshoot to the Boankra D/A and Primary in the area due to the long distance pupils from Kwakukrukrom had to trek to before attending school.
He said government later absolved the school but lack the necessary facilities to enhance teaching and learning.
A KG teacher of the school, Mary Appiah, told The Ghanaian Times that the situation was affecting morale among teachers, adding that some parents are withdrawing their children from the school.
The Headteacher of the school, Bright Asiedu Agyemanang, said management had notified the Tano South Municipal Assembly and had received assurance from the assembly for a new block to be constructed for the school.
The Tano South Municipal Chief Executive, Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, said the assembly had budgeted for the construction of a new school block for the school indicating that work would soon begin.
The school, he mentioned, had already acquired two acre plot of land to facilitate the construction of six unit classroom block
He said the assembly is also soliciting the support of other corporate entities to help in that direction.
