Maxwell Klu donates relief items to Hohoe flood victims

MR Maxwell Yao Akpene Klu has marked his birthday by donating relief items to victims of the recent flood disaster in Hohoe, turning his personal milestone into an act of generosity and solidarity.

Mr Klu said he decided to forgo the usual birthday celebrations after being touched by the plight of the chiefs and people of Hohoe.

The items donated included bales of bed sheets and towels, bags of rice, jumbo-sized gallons of cooking oil, a bale of children’s clothing, bathroom slippers for children, women and adults, sanitary pads, boxes of washing and bath soaps, boxes of biscuits and educational materials.

Presenting the items to the Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, Mr Klu expressed the hope that the donation would help meet some of the immediate needs of people who had lost their property and livelihoods to the floods.

“I hope we will bring relief to many households, particularly women and children. The inclusion of sanitary pads and educational materials reflects a thoughtful concern for dignity, hygiene, and the continuity of children’s schooling during a difficult period,” he said.

He encouraged individuals, corporate bodies and other well-meaning Ghanaians to support the victims, stressing that no contribution was too small in times of crisis.

“The truth is that, I spent some time with my mother who was then the director of education, therefore, I consider Hohoe as a second home and decided to rally support for the people during these critical moments,” he said.

Mr Klu said the floods had destroyed in hours what families had spent years building, including homes, farms, shops and educational materials.

He said the support being provided by the government and individuals demonstrated the strength of Ghanaians in times of crisis.

“We are here today because after a flood, the victims need to be back on their feet and children back to school as we contribute to the development of the nation collectively. No matter how small, donations of relief items or sanitary supplies could prevent a disaster from getting worse,” he said.

Receiving the items, Mr Gunu commended Mr Klu for dedicating his birthday to supporting victims of the disaster.

He described the gesture as a commendable demonstration of compassion and solidarity and called on other individuals, organisations and well-meaning members of the public to support the affected victims.
