ORC seeks Vice President’s support to deepen business formalisation
The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding business formalisation across the country following a courtesy call on Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Thursday in Accra.
The delegation, led by the Registrar of Companies, Mrs Maame Samma Peprah, briefed the Vice President on the Office’s mandate, ongoing reforms and strategic initiatives aimed at bringing business registration services closer to citizens and investors.
Mrs Peprah highlighted the ORC’s nationwide business registration and sensitisation clinics, which seek to encourage businesses, particularly those in the informal sector, to formalise their operations.
She said the initiative was intended to improve access to registration services, educate entrepreneurs on the benefits of formalising their businesses and enhance compliance with Ghana’s business registration laws.
The Registrar reiterated the Office’s commitment to supporting the government’s agenda of building a more inclusive, transparent and vibrant business environment by making business registration services more accessible to entrepreneurs nationwide.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang commended the ORC for its efforts to improve Ghana’s business environment through innovative outreach programmes and public education.
She encouraged the Office to sustain initiatives that simplify business registration processes and make its services more accessible to businesses across the country.
The Vice President also urged the ORC to strengthen its public communication and engagement by consistently highlighting its reforms, achievements and outreach activities.
According to her, keeping the public informed about the Office’s work would boost confidence in its services, encourage voluntary compliance with business registration requirements and enable more entrepreneurs to benefit from its programmes.
The meeting was attended by the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Mr Alex Percival Segbefia; Policy Adviser (Political), Dr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo; Presidential Staffer and Special Aide to the Vice President, Professor Theresah Ennin; Press Secretary, Ms Maame Ama Pratt; and other officials.
The ORC delegation included the Deputy Registrar, Mr Benjamin Zigorsh-Nyankpenu; the Head of the General Administration Directorate, Mr Kwesi Owusu-Abrokwa; the Head of the Legal Directorate, Mrs Rebecca Aryeetey Smith; the Head of the Planning, Policy, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Directorate, Mrs Love Kessewaa Yeboah; and other officials.
The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment of the government and the ORC to promoting business formalisation, improving the ease of doing business and creating an enabling environment for enterprise growth and national economic development.
