Over 160 retired ministers benefit from free health screening

More than 160 retired ministers and their spouses of the Assemblies of God Church have benefited from the seventh edition of a free quarterly health screening programme organised by the Lordina Foundation.
The exercise, held for members of the Retired Ministers and Spouses Association (RMSA) in the Greater Accra East and West regions, offered free medical screening, consultations, medication and health counselling.
The initiative was introduced by the First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, through the Lordina Foundation, following a pledge she made at the launch of the association in September 2024 to provide regular health support for retired ministers and their spouses.
During the exercise, beneficiaries underwent a range of medical examinations, including blood sugar tests, blood pressure checks, Hepatitis B screening, eye examinations, prostate assessments, cancer screening and general consultations.
In addition to receiving prescriptions and medication, the retirees were served breakfast and lunch.
Each beneficiary also received a bag of rice and a cash donation from the First Lady.
Speaking through a representative, Mrs Mahama explained that the programme was inspired by the need to honour retired ministers who had devoted their lives to serving God and their communities.
Quoting 1 Timothy 5:17, she said those who dedicated their lives to preaching and teaching deserved recognition, support and care in retirement.
She further indicated that the Retired Ministers and Spouses Association was established to provide fellowship, community support and welfare services for retired ministers and their spouses, so they would not be neglected after years of service.
Mrs Mahama recalled that at the launch of the association in September 2024, she pledged through the Lordina Foundation to provide free quarterly health screenings and medications for every member.
She expressed satisfaction that the promise was being fulfilled, noting that the current exercise marked the seventh edition.
She added that she was grateful to God for the progress made.
Mrs Mahama also noted that the sixth edition of the programme, held on March 13, 2026, benefited more than 150 retired ministers and their spouses, who received medical diagnosis, counselling, prescriptions and medications.
She commended the medical team for their dedication to the programme and expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Ringway Gospel Centre Assemblies of God for consistently providing a venue for the screenings.
The Chairman of the Retired Ministers and Spouses Association, Rev. Dr Harry Nsaidoo, described the programme as a major source of relief and support for retired ministers.
He explained that the launch of the association coincided with the introduction of the Lordina Foundation’s free health screening initiative, which had since made a significant impact on beneficiaries.
According to him, many of the retirees, most of whom are between 65 and 80 years old, had experienced noticeable improvements in their health and daily activities due to the regular screenings and medical support.
Rev. Dr Nsaidoo added that access to healthcare remained a challenge for many retirees, making the quarterly screenings both timely and essential.
Some beneficiaries, who spoke after the programme, expressed gratitude to Mrs Mahama and President John Mahama for the continued support.
They indicated that the initiative had enabled them to detect and manage health conditions early, leading to improved health and peace of mind.
The beneficiaries described the programme as a blessing and appealed for its continuation to ensure that retired ministers and their spouses continued to receive the healthcare support they needed in their later years.
