Police hunt 2 men for robbing, raping student
The Upper West Regional Police Command has mounted a search for two men, who allegedly raped a student of the Wa Campus of the University for Development Students (UDS), after robbing her of her mobile phones and money and a motorcycle.
The suspects opened the door of the victim with a master key when she was alone in the room at 3am Tuesday.
According to the Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, the suspected robbers, who were wielding a knife and a cutlass, with one of them wearing a mask, reportedly stole four mobile phones, GH¢100 and a motorcycle belonging to the victim and her roommate, who was absent at the time.
The Police PRO stated that one of the two raped the student after allegedly threatening to kill her if she called for help, and the woman reported the incident to the police in the morning.
“She was very much traumatised as a result of the incident and she was given a medical form to go to the hospital for treatment,” adding that the victim named a level 300 student as her suspect.
Insp Boateng said the Regional Commander and other officials had visited the victim later in the day to assure her of their support.
He said the police was also conducting investigations to identify other potential suspects.
