Promptly approve President’s MDCEs nominees – Volta Regional Minister

The Volta Regional Minister, Mr James Gunu, has urged the assembly members in the region to promptly approve the President’s nominees for the roles of Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs).
This, he said was essential for initiating the government’s development agenda aimed at delivering significant progress to the community.
Mr Gunu said any attempt by assembly members not to confirm the MDCEs would not only affect the development of the Volta Region but would also delay the government’s resetting agenda, and cautioned against acts that had the tendency to destroy development plans.
He was speaking at separate confirmation ceremonies on Wednesday for the DCEs for Akatsi North District, Mr Bless Kodjo Katamani, a teacher by profession at Ave-Dakpa, the DCE for Agortime-Ziope District, Mr Alfred Klu Odikro, a businessman at Kpetoe, and the DCE for the Adaklu District, Mr Jerry Yao Ameko also a teacher at Adaklu-Waya.
Mr Gunu said the NDC government had approved a monthly allowance for assembly members in view of the significant roles they played in the development efforts of the country, saying no matter how insignificant it might be, it showed how the government recognised the important role that assembly members played in national development.
The Regional Minister advised the assembly members not to delay the process of confirming the nominees, stressing that any interruption in confirming the MDCEs should be regarded as a deliberate act to delay their own allowances, and urged them to confirm the nominees for development.
He stated that the progress of the Volta Region depended on the assembly members’ approval of the MDCEs to commence their duties.
He also emphasized that all neglected development projects in the region would be finalised, as they were essential for fulfilling the developmental goals of the community.
The Regional Minister after witnessing the unanimous approval of the three DCEs thanked the assembly members for what he described as show of love and willingness to ensure the development of the region, and urged other assemblies to emulate them.
The Akatsi North DCE, Mr Katamani, thanked the assembly members for the confidence reposed in him, and also commended President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity given to him to serve, and appealed to the assembly members and the residents to continue to support him to bring the relevant development to the people.
The DCE for Agortime-Ziope District, Mr Odikro, assured that he would work hard in collaboration with all stakeholders including assembly members to ensure that the development needs of the people would be met, and called for cooperation at all times.
The DCE for Adklu, Mr Ameko, also thanked the President for giving him the opportunity to serve, and assured the assembly members that he would operate an open door administration where all should contribute meaningfully to the development of the area by offering constructive criticism that would lead to development.
The 22 members of Akatsi North Assembly, 19 members of Adaklu Assembly and also 22 members of the Agortime-Ziope District Assembly all unanimously confirmed their DCEs, as the Regional Minister continued with the confirmation of the MDCEs on Thursday
