“Report GAF recruitment scam to NCSC”
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has called on the public to report all suspected online scams relating to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise for immediate action.
According to the Centre, although awareness on recruitment scams had been intensified in the past few years, it has received multiple reports of recruitment related scams targeting the youth especially.
In a statement issued in Accra, the NSCS asked the public to immediately report all such activities to its National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) through any of it provided channels.
They include WhatsApp number 050-160311, call number 292, SMS number 292, report@cybersecurity.gov.gh, mobile app- NSCS Ghana and online form.
It noted that several high-ranking officials including Members of Parliament (MPs) were being impersonated on various internet platforms to perpetrate fraud in the ongoing (GAF) 2021 Enlistment process for Regular Career and Short Service Commission Officers.
The statement said the anonymity provided by existing and emerging technologies makes it difficult for law enforcement agencies to track suspects, who use unregistered SIM cards to perpetrate this type of fraud.
To avoid being defrauded, it said GAF has not assigned any personnel to recruit via social media and advised the public to contact GAF through officially approved channels only.
The statement further urged the public to verify the ongoing recruitment process directly from the GAF and warned against application for enlistment into the GAF through agents and intermediaries.
“Job seekers are advised not to entertain social media recruitment offers from their District/Municipal Chief Executives, MPs and Ministers, but should rather follow the official recruitment process prescribed by the GAF.
No MP would approach any member of public, with a job offer using social media platforms or demand any payment for recruitment into any public service. Interested applicants are advised to make payments for such recruitments, if required, through official channels,” it added.
The statement noted that job seekers could reach the Ghana Armed Forces directly through Tel: +233-544338030 or Email: dprinfo@gaf.mil.gh
