SDA Church ends Stewardship and Wealth Creation Summit
The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church Ghana has ended a five-day Stewardship and Wealth Creation Summit at Valley View University, Techiman Campus, in the Bono East Region.
The summit, organised by the General Conference (GC) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the West-Central Africa Division (WAD) for the four SDA Union territories in Ghana, was hosted by the North-Central Ghana Union Mission (NCGUM).
Held on the theme: ‘Ambassadors of the Kingdom: Glorifying God with Our Finances,’ the summit brought together 529 participants, including pastors and lay members from the four Unions across the country.
It provided a platform for church leaders and members to deepen their understanding of biblical stewardship, responsible financial management, strategic planning and sustainable wealth creation.
Facilitators included representatives of the General Conference and the West-Central Africa Division, as well as local resource persons.
Among the presenters were Pastor Marcos Bomfin, Elder Hector Reyes, Elder Samuel Saul, Pastor Dr Dickson Sarfo Marfo, Professor Owolabi Oyeleke, Pastor Dr Bright Osei Yeboah, Pastor James Amoh, Dr Isaac Kamkam Boadu, Country Director of ADRA Ghana, Dr Ebenezer Mensah, Elder E.K. Nkansah and Elder P.A. Frempong.
The presentations covered areas including church budgeting and welfare systems, biblical stewardship, God-first commitment, wealth creation and financial management, strategic planning, real estate and land economy, management of church finances, planned giving and trust services, as well as stewardship, identity, calling and mission.
Participants were reminded that Christian stewardship extended beyond financial giving to encompass the faithful management of time, talents, health, finances, property and opportunities entrusted to God’s people.
According to a press statement issued at the end of the summit and copied to The Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, participants were encouraged to put God first in their financial decisions, practise accountability and financial discipline, engage in strategic planning and explore legitimate avenues for sustainable wealth creation.
A major practical outcome of the summit was the adoption of cashew plantation farming as a model for sustainable wealth creation.
As part of the initiative, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Ghana, in partnership with the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), donated 80 cashew seedlings to the North-Central Ghana Union Mission to establish a two-acre demonstration farm at the Valley View University, Techiman Campus.
Participants were encouraged to return to their respective Unions, churches and communities to establish demonstration farms and other income-generating ventures, translating the knowledge acquired at the summit into practical action.
The summit also called on Adventists across Ghana to embrace their identity as “Ambassadors of the Kingdom” by faithfully managing God’s resources, creating wealth responsibly, strengthening families and communities, and supporting the mission of the Church.
The four SDA Unions in Ghana are led by Pastor Col. (Rtd) Peter Kwabena Nyarko Duodu, President of the South-East Ghana Union Mission (SEGUM), Tema; Pastor Adeefe Kwakye Yaw, President of the South-West Ghana Union Conference (SWGUC), Osu, Accra; Pastor Jonathan Owusu, President of the Mid-Ghana Union Conference (MGUC), Kumasi; and Pastor Dr Edward Nyarko, President of the North-Central Ghana Union Mission (NCGUM), Techiman.
The organisers expressed gratitude to the General Conference, West-Central Africa Division, the four Unions in Ghana, local presenters, ADRA Ghana, TCDA, Valley View University and the 529 participants for their contributions to the success of the summit.
