The retained Chairman of the Tema East Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Robert Kempes Ofosuware, has called for unity among party members following the constituency elections held nationwide last Saturday.

Speaking to The Ghanaian Times after his re-election, Mr Ofosuware said unity, determination and a common purpose were essential for the party to retain the Tema East parliamentary seat, which it wrested from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2000 general election and retained in 2024.

He said now that the internal elections were over, members and other stakeholders should set aside their individual interests and make the party’s collective interest their priority.

“We must bring everyone on board, both victors and losers of our internal polls, because each member’s hard work would be needed to ensure overwhelming victory,” he emphasised.

Mr Ofosuware also noted that his vision was to improve the NDC’s electoral fortunes in the constituency and establish Tema East as a political stronghold of the party for years to come.

He said the constituency would draw on the vision and policies of whoever emerged as the party’s flagbearer to mobilise more votes and secure victory in the 2028 general election.

Mr Ofosuware, a former Chief Executive of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), added that he would use his second term to prioritise the welfare of party members in the constituency.

“Their needs and concerns will be my flagship priority,” he underlined.

He further indicated that he would work to secure job opportunities for unemployed party members to improve their living conditions and support their families.

At Saturday’s polls, Mr Ofosuware polled 436 valid votes to defeat four other candidates and retain the chairmanship.

He was the NDC parliamentary candidate for Tema East in the 2016 general election, in which he narrowly lost to the NPP’s Daniel Titus-Glover by three votes.
