U/West minister saves 4-year-old boy

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih, violated convoy protocol and saved the life of a four-year-old boy, who was an accident victim.

The Minister, who was returning from Jirapa where he had performed an official duty, arrived at the accident scene on the Wa Insurance Road.

Mr Cletus Awuni, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council, told the GNA that the minster stopped the convoy to attend to the boy, to the amazement of on-lookers at the scene.

The PRO said Fatawu Ibrahim, the victim from Dondoli, a suburb of Wa, was returning from school and was knocked down by a motorcycle while attempting to cross the road.

Mr Awuni explained that: “The motor rider who hit the boy could not offer much help until the Minister and his entourage, who were returning from Jirapa where he inaugurated the new edifice of the Jirapa Traditional Council, arrived.”

According to the PRO, “Dr Salih stopped his vehicle and rushed the little boy to the hospital for treatment. The Minister was at the hospital for close to an hour to ensure that the boy was given good medical care before he left for the office”.

Mr Awuni said the minister, before leaving the hospital, left the boy under the care of the Upper West Regional Director of Education, Razak Abdul-Korah, who was also there to visit the victim.

The PRO said that the people around the accident scene tried to shield the motor rider when the minister enquired about him.

Mr Awuni said however, “after several questionings, the gentleman owned up and was arrested”.

Meanwhile, Mr Abdul-Korah said the boy’s parents were traced and contacted, adding that the victim had been discharged from the hospital and was doing well. -GNA
