US Embassy welcomes new Public Affairs Officer
The United States Embassy in Ghana has welcomed Ms Pam DeVolder as its new Public Affairs Officer, with the embassy highlighting public diplomacy as a key avenue for strengthening relations and mutual understanding between Ghana and the United States.
Speaking at a welcome reception in Accra, the US Chargé d’Affaires, Mr Rolf Olson, said Ms DeVolder’s extensive diplomatic and public diplomacy experience would add value to the embassy’s engagement with the media, civil society and cultural communities in Ghana.
He described public diplomacy as “the human face” of the bilateral relationship, saying it involved exchange programmes, cultural events, media partnerships and other engagements that brought the peoples of the two countries closer.
Mr Olson expressed confidence that Ms DeVolder would build on the work of her predecessors and further strengthen the embassy’s engagement with Ghanaian stakeholders.
According to him, Ghana’s vibrant media landscape, dynamic civil society and rich cultural traditions made the country one of the most rewarding public diplomacy postings in the region.
He commended the embassy’s Public Diplomacy Section for its work in promoting the US-Ghana relationship through press outreach, cultural programming, educational exchanges, alumni engagement and digital communication.
Ms DeVolder brings more than two decades of diplomatic experience to her new assignment in Ghana.
Before arriving in Ghana, she served as Cultural Affairs Attaché at the US Embassy in London from 2023 to 2026.
She previously served as Counsellor for Public Affairs at the US Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam, from 2019 to 2023.
Her other assignments included Public Affairs Officer and Deputy Principal Officer at the US Consulate General in Krakow, Poland; Public Affairs Officer in Vientiane, Laos; and Assistant Cultural Affairs Officer and Deputy Press Attaché in Berlin, Germany.
