Volta NDC ban on campaign ahead of parliamentary primary not lifted
The Volta Regional Executive Committee (REC) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not lifted banned campaign activities by aspiring Members of Parliament (MPs) and their agents ahead of the opening of nominations for parliamentary primary in the constituencies.
It observed that activities of some parliamentary aspirants were resulting in disaffection, disunity and lack of party cohesion, hence the decision, and warned that the party would promptly take the necessary disciplinary actions against members who disregarded the directive.
A release signed by James Gunu, the Regional Secretary of the NDC, said REC had
potential aspirants and their agents cautioned to halt all campaign activities till nominations are opened and the party would not hesitate in taking disciplinary actions against any member who flouted the directives.
It said in line with Article 41 of the party’s constitution, all aspirants would be granted equal opportunities for campaigning when nominations are opened and had directed all constituency executive committees to proceed with branch adoptions, ward/zonal coordinators election, and grassroots party mobilisation.
The release said the committees had also been tasked to concentrate on the forthcoming limited voter registration exercise by the Electoral Commission and other activities towards helping the NDC win back power in 2020. -gna.org
