The President of Zimbabwe, Emerson Mnangagwa, arrived in Ghana yesterday for a three-day State Visit. He was received by President John Dramani Mahama, accompanied by ministers of state, senior government officials led by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, and service commanders.
The visiting president was accorded full military honours, including an inspection of a Guard of Honour by the Ghana Armed Forces and a 21-gun salute while the national anthems of both nations were performed. President Mnangagwa and his Ghanaian host shared a tete-a-tete at the Jubilee Lounge before departing for official engagements.
A state banquet hosted by President Mahama celebrated the longstanding friendship between Ghana and Zimbabwe. Bilateral talks between the two countries are scheduled at the Peduase Lodge in the Eastern Region, focusing on enhancing cooperation in trade, tourism, health, sanitation, agriculture, anti-corruption measures, and tackling unemployment. The talks will be followed by the signing and exchange of Memoranda of Understanding covering key areas of mutual interest.
During the visit, President Mnangagwa is also scheduled to tour the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre (SGMC) and the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant to learn about Ghana’s healthcare delivery and waste management innovations. He will pay tribute to Ghana’s founding father by laying a wreath at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
President Mnangagwa is expected to depart Ghana on Friday, receiving full departure honours at the Jubilee Lounge.
