2 brothers in trouble for alleged robbery, theft
The Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality has remanded two brothers in custody for alleged robbery and stealing.
Augustine Kofi Owusu, 28, who pleaded not guilty to the charges was taken to prison custody, and would reappear before court on November 5, 2024.
Kwabena Nsiah, 31, who pleaded guilty, was remanded in police custody, and expected to reappear before court on October 31, this year.
Their accomplice, Naomi Bruwaa, 32, who was charged with abetment of crime, pleaded not guilty, and would also reappear before court on November 5, this year, while Abenaa Pokuaa, another accomplice, was on the run.
Police Chief Inspector, Ruth Gborson, said that the two brothers were illegal miners, living at Nweneso Number one, where the complainant, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fredua Mining Company operated.
The prosecution told the court, presided over by Mrs Philomina Ansah Asiedu, that Owusu and his accomplice robbed attacked their victims.
Chief Insp Gborson said the brothers and their accomplices, armed with a gun and cutlass, laid ambush on the route to the mine site, at the Nweneso township.
According to prosecution, accused and their accomplices attacked Kelvin Twumasi, Prince
Adu, and others workers of the company, when they arrived at the spot.
Chief Insp Gborson stated that in the process, the attackers seized unrefined gold valued at GH¢120,000.00 from their victims and bolted.
Prosecution also said Twumasi and Adu reported the matter to the CEO, who lodged a complainant at the Hwidiem police, resulting in the arrest of Owusu at his hideout.
Chief Insp Gborson further disclosed that Owusu in his caution statement, denied the robbery, and said he only aided his accomplice to collect GH¢10,000 being his pay, from the company.
The prosecution said Owusu claimed that the GH¢10,000.00 had been stolen from his room by his brother, Nsiah.
Chief Insp Gborson said Owusu led the police to arrest Nsiah, who admitted that he took GH¢5, 100 out of the GH¢10,000. —GNA
