2 killed as armed robbers attack MoMo vendors at Fiapre
Two persons were killed following an armed robbery attack on two mobile money (MoMo) vendors at Fiapre near Sunyani in the Bono Region.
However, two of the robbers managed to escape with GH¢40,000.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Wednesday when three armed men, wielding AK-47 rifles, allegedly opened fire to scare residents before attacking the vendors.
In the ensuing confusion, a stray bullet hit an onlooker, identified only as Ibrahim, killing him instantly, while one of the suspected robbers was reportedly killed by an angry mob.
An eyewitness told The Ghanaian Times that the robbers suddenly appeared at the scene and fired several shots, causing residents to run for cover.
According to the eyewitness, one of the suspects was overpowered and killed by the mob, while the other two escaped with the cash.
The Bono Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, confirmed the incident and said the police had visited the scene and commenced investigations.
He mentioned that efforts were underway to track down the suspects and bring them to face justice.
Chief Inspector Akeelah appealed to the public to provide credible information that could assist the police in arresting the perpetrators.
The body of the deceased onlooker and that of the suspected robber have been deposited at the Sunyani Teaching Hospital morgue, while the two mobile money vendors are receiving treatment at the same facility.
