3 arrested for defrauding car dealers
The police in Kumasi have arrested Daniel Kofi Yirenkyi, 35, Osei Aborakwa, 32, and Emmanuel Kwesi Anane,32, for defrauding car dealers.
The suspects, believed to belong to a vehicle fraud syndicate, allegedly defrauded some car dealers of huge sums of money, using dud cheques.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Godwin Ahianyo of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, who confirmed the story to journalists, here, said members of the syndicate negotiated with car dealers to withdraw money at specific periods, but suspects bolted with their cars.
He said the cars were taken to garages as collateral for loans, after which the duped car dealers were called to retrieve their vehicles for lack of interest.
ASP Ahianyo said the law enforcement agencies are stepping up their efforts to bring other fraudsters to book. He asked the public to report miscreants to the police for swift action.
“Our investigations revealed that they have swindled a number of people some of which are diversion of consumer goods among others… we will like to use this medium to inform the general public to come to the regional CID to investigate the case.
“We want to caution the general public, especially traders not to fall prey to such activities,” ASP Ahianyo said.
