3 robbers jailed 60 years
The Circuit Court at Sogakopein the Volta Region, has sentenced three armed robbers to a total of 60 years imprisonment for robbing victim of the Haojue motorbike.
The convicts, Godsway Sedofia, 19, Seraphim Torgbor, 18, and Destiny Adzakpo, 18, pleaded not guilty to the charges of robbery.
However, the court presided over by Mr Isaac Addofound them guilty after the trial and convicted them to 20 years imprisonment each in hard labour.
According to the police, efforts were underway to arrest Robert Sedofia, who is connected to the robbery, but was on the run.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector SeiduKodua told the court that on Wednesday, December 22, last year, Sedofia hired the services of a motorbike rider from the Akatsi Central Market to Atidzive.
The court heard that on reaching a section of the road, Sedofiaordered the rider to stop, pointing a pistol at him.
Chief InspKoduasaidwith the assistance of his accomplices, Adzakpo and Sedofia, who had at the time laid ambush in a nearby bush, robbed the victim of his motorbike with registration number M-21- VR 3225.
Prosecution said the victim later reported his friends, who are also motorbike riders to look out for his motorbike.
According to Chief InspKodua, the victim had a tip-off that Sedofiaand Torgbor were seen on a motorbike speeding through Glikpome5ownship, near Atidzive.
Chief InspKoduasaid the victim and his friends arrested Sedofiain his room at Glikpome with the victim’s crash helmet in his possession.
Prosecution said Sedofiaadmitted the offence in his caution statement and mentioned Torgbor, Adzakpo, and Sedofia as accomplices leading, to the arrest of the two at their hideout at Glikpome on December 24, 2021.
Chief InspKoduasaid during interrogation, Adzakposaid that he and the gang leader, Sedofia, had parked the motorbike at the premises of the Keta Municipal Hospital.
He said the Police took Adzakpoto the hospital, where the motorbike was retrieved.
Prosecution said in his caution statement, Torgbor said that he only participated in the planning of the act and further pointed to the gang which motorbike to be robbed, but did not take part in robbery. -GNA
