
THE Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested eight suspected highway robbers following a robbery on the Mampong-Ejura highway.
The incident occurred on March 26, 2026, at Aframso Bridge, where six armed men attacked a driver and 14 passengers, stealing cash and mobile phones.
Police said the suspects were apprehended on March 30 at Amakwa Dadey Hotel in Ejura, where they were found sharing proceeds from the robbery.
The suspects are Amidu Sajo (42), Ibrahim Sule (36), Karim Hadu (40), Malik Jibrilla (38), Yusifa Asakoko (23), Umaru Issifu (20), Damani Yamba (36), and Ibrahim Iddrisu, known as “Bule” (43).
Iddrisu, wanted for a 2023 robbery on the same route, attacked a police officer during the operation and sustained gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at Jamasi Pope John Paul Hospital.
Police recovered two AK-47 rounds, three cutlasses, GH¢15,717, eight mobile phones, a talisman, an identity card, and a side bag linked to the robbery.
The remaining suspects are assisting investigations while efforts continue to arrest other accomplices.
The Ashanti North Police Command added that the remaining suspects were in police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend other accomplices and retrieve additional weapons.
It noted that the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Mampong Government Hospital morgue for preservation and further action.
The Ashanti North Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating highway robbery and urged the public to continue to support the Police with information to help maintain safety on the roads.
