Age cheating halts Adaklu District U-13 tournament

The Adaklu District Basic Schools inter circuit under-13 boys’ soccer tournament ended abruptly on Friday.

This was due to age cheating by some competing circuits.

A Circuit Sports Committee Secretary, who spoke to the GNA, demanding strict anonymity alleged that officials of some participating teams collected Health Insurance Cards of junior brothers of their players to make them eligible to play.

He continued that though the Health Insurance Cards made them eligible to play, their physical features aroused the suspicion of officials of other circuits who protested fervently.

He noted that the situation nearly degenerated into verbal attacks and total chaos which nearly resulted in fisticuffs.

He described the situation as very shameful.

“The District Sports Committee stopped the tournament to save life and property,” he stated.

The secretary noted that in the match between Adaklu Kodzobi circuit and Adaklu Abuadi circuit which Abuadi won 3 – 0, he protested six players from Abuadi circuit.

He indicated that after investigations by the District Sports Committee, two of the players were found to be overaged and Abuadi circuit was fined GH¢200.

Another official, who mentioned his name only as James, also told the GNA that the behaviour of these officials who were also teachers had tarnished the image and integrity of the district. –GNA
