Aspiring parliamentary candidate supports Sagnarigu c’nity with boreholes, dredging of dams …to improve access to potable water
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Sagnarigu Constituency in the Northern Region, Mrs Felecia Tettey, through her own initiative has rehabilitated boreholes and dredged a number of dams of some communities in her constituency to improve access to potable water in the area.
The beneficiary communities include Kogni, Katariga, Yong Duuni, Dabogshe Yilonaayili, Bogkurigu, Sorugu, Zagyuri and Garizegu all in the Sagnarigu constituency.
She stated that the initiative formed part of her efforts to relief the suffering of the people in their daily struggle to get potable drinking water.
The PC made this known to Ghanaian Times in an interview after visiting some of the communities to inspect progress of work of the projects.
She also stated that the construction of the boreholes in the communities would go a long way to minimise the spread of water-borne diseases in the beneficiary communities.
“As a mother it pains me to see mothers trekking long distances to search for water,” she added
She said the dredging of the dams and the construction of the boreholes would now minimise the scarcity of water in the constituency.
Mrs Tettey added that she would continue to expand dredging of dams and boreholes till every community get access to good drinking water.
Moreover, she said this was not her first time of embarking on such project and it was something that she had been doing for the past five years and could confidently say that since that time till now, she constructed more than 100 boreholes in the constituency.
Mrs Tettey further said that the dredging of the dams was important because it was the only source of dams that the communities depended on, hence the need to dredge it fast to solve the water crisis for them.
“The Garizegu dam is not only dam serving the inhabitants of Garizegu but other surrounding communities,” she added.
She also noted that she was not only constructing boreholes and dredging dams but also provided water tanker to go round in order to supply water in the constituency just to temporally relief them from the crisis.
Mrs Tettey assured them of her commitment to finding a lasting solution to the water crisis which has been a major canker to many parts of the constituency.
She, however, appealed to the people in the constituency to see themselves as one people in order to give her the maximum cooperation to support them more in the development of the constituency.
Nyeb Garizegu Silimboma Naa on behalf of the beneficiary communities thanked the PC for coming to their aid to support them to solve their perennial water situation in the various communities.
He said the dams would serve them in many ways, adding that it would not only serve them as source of water but would also serve as an opportunity for irrigation.
Hajia Salamatu Mahama, Magazia of Katariga community, thanked Mrs Tettey for the efforts she put in making sure that they got good drinking water.
She said from now on they would not wake up early in the morning again to searching for water.
The Magazia, therefore, appealed to the Mrs Tettey to continue with the good works and assured her that they would rally behind her to succeed in anything that she was doing.
