6th Accra City Open Doubles championship starts today
The Accra Lawn Tennis Club (ALTC) will come alive today as the sixth edition of the Accra City Open Doubles Tennis championships kicks off today with over 150 pairs registered for the championship.
The first match of this year’s championship is set for 3pm with the finals set for April 12 at the same venue.
Mr Peter Annan, Chief Executive Officer of Grandmaster Tennis Events, organisers of the tournament, told the Times Sports yesterday that this year’s edition is expected to be full of thrills and excitement.
According to him, this year’s edition would see participants feature in different age categories and mixed events.
As of the March 31 registration deadline, 15 pairs have registered for the Men’s 30/30 age division, 22 pairs registered for the Men’s 40/40 age category, 11 pairs for Men’s 50/59 age group, six pairs for the 60/69 group, two for the 70/79 division and a pair for the 80plus category.
In the Men’s Semi Pros event, only two pairs – Bernard Ashitey Armaah/Nicholas Kumadey and Isaac Dapaah/ Charles Asomani had registered.
The Semi Pros 41 plus had a pair of five with the Women’s Up to 39 group have 10 registered pairings for honours.
The pairs of Faustina Tagoe/ Sara Holst and Emily Stoiber/ Kate Coleman were the only candidates for the Women’s 40/49 group with Hajia Zinabu/Yaa Gyesiwaa Quansah and Faustina Wellington-Kommey/partner making up the Women’s 50 plus category.
The Mixed Doubles Social event recorded the biggest entry with 27 registered pairs.
