Ayawaso West Municipal MCE adjudged Best Head Covered Entity
The Ayawaso West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE),Ms Sandra Owusu-Ahenkorah, has been adjudged the overall Best Head Covered Entity, for the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assembly (MMDAs) category at the 2023 Internal Audit Awards held in Accra last Friday.
The awards was instituted by Internal Audit Agency(IAA)after each annual conference to honour distinguished individuals, public institutions, some agencies and departments whose contributions and support facilitated the work of members in their various places of work.
This year’s conference was on the theme: ‘Twenty years of internal audit practice in Ghana; achievements, challenges and the way forward.’
The IAA, established by an Act of Parliament, the Internal Audit Act, 2003 (Act 658) with the object of coordinating, facilitating and providing quality assurance for internal audit activities in all public institutions.
The MCE who was accompanied by over 40 of the staff of the assembly was presented with a citation and a plaque for her timely implementation of audit recommendations.
Her actions the citation stated undoubtedly enhanced the internal control systems of the assembly which facilitated the work of the audit committees.
It continued that “your role and active participation at all levels of deliberations strengthen the audit unit and committees which helped improve their services and offered them the opportunity to take independent decisions.”
Elated Ms Owusu-Ahenkorah in an interview after the ceremony dedicated the award not only to the audit and unit committees but the entire staff of the assembly.
According to her, this feat could not have been possible without the dedication and determination of each unit who were resolved to achieve their targets at the given time frame.
The MCE stated that the hectic regular meetings and the major decisions taken during such times which serves as checks and balances on each unit had really paid off, adding it is only when you attend their meeting that you will understand.
She commended the IAA for the recognition and urged the audit committees to put in extra effort in order to maintain the standard established over the years.
