Bechem win a relief for Kotoko – Maxwell Konadu
Asante Kotoko Head Coach, Maxwell Konadu described Friday night’s 3-1 victory against Bechem United in their match day 12 league clash as a ‘relief’ for his players and technical team after a string of poor outings.
Konadu admitted that the lacklustre displays that resulted in the drawn game against Ashantigold , 1-0 loss at Aduana and the shock 2-1 exit from the FA Cup game to Division One side, Asokwa Deportivo had placed his team under enormous pressure to deliver.
Kotoko bounced back after conceding a 29th minute headed effort from Bechem striker Hafiz Konkoni but goals from Martin Antwi, Augustine Okrah and Ibrahim Moro ensured a comfortable win for the Porcupine Warriors.
Addressing the press after the game, Konadu indicated that they wanted to use the game to spark a turnaround in their season’s fortunes.
“We worked very hard this week to earn this result and we will work hard to get
better.”
I was happy to see my boys running and chasing every ball, we wanted them to do that and they executed it to the letter.”
When quizzed about whether Board chair Dr Kwame Kyei’s scathing rebuke of the playing body and team officials had invigorated a winning spirit in his side, he responded with “maybe it did but I know we really worked hard.”
Konadu said playing at the Accra Sports Stadium as against their preferred Baba Yara stadium was obviously not their favoured choice but they had to cope under the circumstances.
“We will miss the Baba Yara Stadium because it is bigger in capacity and our traditional grounds but we have to accept that the Accra Sports stadium is our new grounds and therefore make it our new home with the support from the fans.”
Bechem United gaffer Kweku Danso conceded that despite his side’s impressive home form their results away from Bechem was worrying and one he was working hard with his technical team to avert.
“We concede a lot on the road and commit errors that are avoidable. Today for instance our goalkeeper didn’t have the best of days and that resulted in Kotoko’s comeback.
We will work towards keeping laser-focus for 90 minutes and conceding less on the road.
