The seven-member Committee of Enquiry inaugurated last month by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Adams, to probe the death of the Nigerian boxer, Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who died during a professional bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, has presented its final report to the Minister.
Presenting the 100-page document last Friday, the Chairman of the Committee, Major (Rtd) Amarkai Amarteifio, expressed the hope that the platform would lead to urgent reforms in the sport.
According to him, through the committee’s work, solutions would be found to some of the pressing problems of sports in the country.

He praised his committee members for a good job done and also thanked the health workers at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and all others whose contribution had helped to enrich the report.
Receiving the report, Mr Adams also commended the committee for the dedication and commitment to carry out its mandate.
He noted that the Ministry will look into the report and its recommendations, and make it public after studying it to help the boxing industry and to prevent such occurrences in the future.
He stated that the recommendations will be implemented to ensure the total reform of boxing and other sporting disciplines.
