Create cordial relationships with MMDAs to accelerate c’nity devt—Chiefs urged
Traditional authorities have been urged to create cordial relationships with their Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to initiate and implement pragmatic programmes that will help bring growth and development to the people.
They have been told to also collaborate effectively and efficiently with Assemblies because they played important role in facilitating infrastructural development in their various communities and help in improving livelihoods.
Dr Kingsley Nyarko, Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwadaso Constituency in the Ashanti Region, who made the call at a Town hall meeting for traditional authorities in the Edwenease Electoral Area in the Kwadaso Municipality, stressed on the need for them not to sit down idle and talk, but rather, create cordial relationships with local government authorities to bring socioeconomic infrastructure and programmes that would help improve livelihoods of the people.
It was organised for traditional authorities and people of the area as part of community outreach engagement with constituents, the 10th in the series by the MP was under the theme: ‘Building Kwadaso Together’, designed to afford the MP and the Municipal Chief Executive opportunity to interact with constituents and keep abreast with developmental challenges and problems facing residents and discuss ways together to resolve them.
Dr Nyarko pointed out that traditional authorities and Assemblies had shared responsibility and needed to work together for growth and development of the people adding that ”local governance can only function and bring socioeconomic development when they and the people supported, assisted and co-operated with Assemblies to perform.
“I thank you for voting for me to represent you in Parliament and I appeal to you to unite, assist and support me and Agyenim Boateng in discharging our duties and rally behind us and the Assembly in the implementation of growth and development programmes for your benefit and it is important for the community to decide projects, which were of priority to you for consideration and implementation,” Dr Nyarko said.
Mr Boateng, the Municipal Chief Executive, admonished residents to rekindle communal spirit and embark on regular clean-up exercises in communities to keep the environment clean and prevent outbreak of communicable diseases to accelerate pace of development.
Emmanuel Darko, the Assembly Member for the electoral area, lauded the MP for engaging constituents to know challenges and problems facing them to find ways to address them. -GNA
