Driver’s mate jailed 3 years for defiling 14-year-old girl
A driver’s mate, who defiled a 14-year-old girl, has been jailed three
years in hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court.
Richard Gyamfi, 18, pleaded guilty and was convicted
on his own plea by the court presided by Miss Comfort Tasiame.
Police Chief Inspector Mercy Quaye told the court
that on October 18, this year, the victim, who lives with her grandmother at
Atafoa-Tikese near Kumasi, went to the room of Daniel Appiah, her uncle’s friend,
to watch television.
The court heard that the victim met Appiah
and accused in the room watching television, and a few minutes later, Appiah
went out to receive a telephone call.
Chief Insp Quaye said accused took
advantage of Appiah’s absence and had sexual intercourse with the victim, after
which he left the room before Appiah could return.
Prosecution said the victim returned home
and kept the ordeal to herself until her grandmother, Felicia Dapaah, the
complainant in the case, observed changes in the girl and questioned her.
Chief Insp Quaye said the victim told the
grandmother that accused had sex with her, and a report was made to the
Suntreso Police, in Kumasi.
Prosecution said accused was arrested and a
police medical report form was issued for her to be examined, and the report
endorsed by Medical officers at the Suntreso Government Hospital, confirmed the
victim had been defiled.
Chief Insp Quaye said accused in a cautioned
statement admitted the offence. – GNA
