Ex-President Mahama introduces running mate to Rawlings
Former President Jerry John Rawlings has advised Professor Naana Jane Opoku- Agyemang not to deviate from her principles of integrity following her selection as Vice-Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He gave the advice yesterday in Accra when the flagbearer of the party and former President, John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy call on him in his office to introduce the Vice-Presidential candidate.
They were accompanied by National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia and Kofi Attoh, Vice Chairman.
Former President Rawlings noted that the former Minister for Education’s selection was an exciting one and had no objections to it.
He noted that prior to the announcement; he was informed by former President Mahama that following consultations with the party hierarchy, Professor Opoku-Agyemang was the favourite among a list of shortlisted candidates.
“There was no reason to stand against it even though I had a few others in mind,” former President Rawlings stated.
He further urged Ghanaians to partake in the ongoing voter registration exercise to be able to vote during the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections and called on political parties to desist from activities that would create civil unrest.
Introducing Professor Opoku-Agyemang, former President Mahama said she had the credentials worthy of her selection and listed several achievements including her appointment as the first female Vice Chancellor of a Ghanaian university.
He further lauded her contribution towards improving the country’s educational sector during her tenure as Minister.
Mr Asiedu Nketsia said the selection of Professor Opoku-Agyemang proves that the NDC stands for the promotion of youth and women empowerment.
