GCAA Boss Honoured for Excellence in African Aviation

The Director-General of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), Rev. Stephen Wilfred Arthur, has been recognized for his exceptional contributions to aviation safety and regulatory advancement by the International Federation of Air Traffic Controllers’ Associations Africa and Middle East (IFATCA AFM) and the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Africa.
The award ceremony took place on 23rd March 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria, highlighting Rev. Arthur’s leadership in strengthening aviation safety, modernizing infrastructure, enhancing air navigation services, and promoting operational excellence in Ghana and across Africa. The award was received on his behalf by a designated representative.
The citation read:
“In recognition of your exemplary leadership, distinguished service, and unwavering commitment to strengthening aviation safety and security, advancing regulatory excellence, enhancing air navigation services and infrastructure, and promoting operational excellence in Ghana’s aviation sector and the wider African aviation community.”
Upon receiving the award at GCAA headquarters, Rev. Arthur expressed humility and gratitude, stating that the recognition would motivate him to further elevate the Authority’s image and Ghana’s reputation in the global aviation sector. He dedicated the honour to President John Dramani Mahama for his appointment as GCAA Chief Executive and acknowledged the Board, Management, and staff for their support during his first year in office.
The accolade underscores Rev. Arthur’s efforts to align Ghana’s aviation sector with international best practices in safety oversight, service delivery, and infrastructure development. His leadership has enhanced institutional capacity and fostered regional collaboration within Africa’s aviation ecosystem.

ITF Africa advocates for the rights and welfare of transport workers, supporting equitable and sustainable outcomes across the continent’s transport sector.
