GIPC showcases district level economic growth potentials in Central, Western Regions

The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) hosts regional investment roadshows in the Central and Western Regions from today January 19 to 23, 2026, to showcase investment ready opportunities and promote district level economic growth.
The initiative forms part of the Centre’s flagship Investment Opportunity Mapping Project (IOMP), aimed at identifying and promoting viable investment prospects across priority sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
According to a press statement issued by the GIPC and shared with The Ghanaian Times, the roadshows is being organised in partnership with MTN Ghana and in collaboration with the Office of the Chief of Staff, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, and the Ghana Export Promotion Authority.
Other collaborating institutions includes the Ghana Freezones Authority, the Ghana Enterprises Agency, the 24 Hour Economy Secretariat, as well as the Central and Western Regional Coordinating Councils.
The statement said the roadshows would engage investors, district assemblies, and private sector stakeholders, and would be held on the theme “Driving Local Investment, Unlocking Regional Potential, Mapping Opportunities, and Mobilising Growth in the Central and Western Regions.”
It noted that the initiative built on similar roadshows held in the Volta and Oti Regions in 2025, which included engagements with business communities, traditional authorities, regional ministers, and Members of Parliament, and also led to the opening of a GIPC regional office in Ho.
The statement said the IOMP had profiled 75 investment ready opportunities across all priority sectors, including mining, manufacturing, information and communication technology, renewable energy, and agribusiness.
Touching on the regional outlook, it described the Central and Western Regions as dynamic economic hubs with significant untapped potential.
It added that the Western Region led the country in cocoa production and was a major producer of rubber, while the Central Region was known for cassava and pineapple cultivation, with opportunities in large scale farming, agro processing, modern storage, and sustainable supply chains.
In fisheries and aquaculture, the statement said the regions’ coastline, lagoons, and marine and riverine resources offered opportunities in fish feed production, cold chain infrastructure, modern processing plants, and sustainable technologies to address overfishing and illegal fishing.
Tourism and hospitality opportunities were also highlighted, with the Central Region hosting UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, and the Western Region boasting beaches such as Busua and Dixcove, creating prospects for heritage hotels, beach resorts, eco lodges, adventure tourism, and conference facilities.
The statement further pointed to natural resource prospects, including gold, bauxite, manganese, and diamonds in the Western Region, and kaolin in the Central Region, as well as renewable energy projects ranging from hybrid solutions to mini hydro, solar, wind, bioenergy, and rural mini grids.
Records from the GIPC showed that between 1995 and September 2025, the Central Region recorded 154 foreign direct investment projects valued at US$491.36 million, while the Western Region recorded 294 projects totalling US$10.83 billion.
Quoting the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Simon Madjie, the statement said strategic partnerships were needed to scale the IOMP nationwide and strengthen district institutional capacity for investment facilitation.
It added that the roadshows had helped unlock the untapped potential of Ghana’s coastal economies and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to transforming Ghana into Africa’s premier investment destination by equipping every district with actionable investment intelligence.
